105 kg gold seized at Dhaka airport

Once again the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department (CIID) came up with a big haul of gold when they seized 904 gold bars weighing 105 kg at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the city Saturday.

The authority found the gold bars worth Tk 500 million in the toilet of the Biman Bangladesh Airline flight no-058 which arrived in Dhaka from Dubai in the morning.

The CIID arrested a technician of Biman, Anis Uddin, on suspicion of his involvement with the smuggling in gold.

CIID Director General (DG) Moinul Khan told the FE: "At around 2:00 PM Saturday the CIID seized 105 kg of gold bars worth approximately Tk 500 million as per the current market price".

He said the arrested had been handed over to the Biman Bondor police station.
